Just in case you've forgotten about this..
Well, Sam here for what probably won't be the last update ever (considering at some point i'll probably go back and draw a few IM characters off and on and then post them here), but just here to remind you that I've got a new comic that's going to start relatively soon. It's called 3AM, and you can find it at http://threeam.keenspace.com. If you liked IM, odds are you'll like 3AM. When is it going to start? I'm not too sure, but when it does, I'll post about it here. | | Saturday, September 1st, 2001 | | 2:44 am |
Yep, it's really over.
It's true, it's true. Sam here for the last update of the regular run of Idle Minds. I'm a bit disappointed in myself about the whole thing, especially since i'm ending it literally days before the 1-year anniversary, but I know it's for the best. Since drawing the comic became a chore, it's not something that I wanted to do every other day. But, the whole thing was a fun ride, like I said in the graphic.
Now, I can't stress this enough: KEEP CHECKING BACK for the finales. It'll be wholly unlike anything you've seen in Idle Minds before, mainly because it's all about breaking the 4th wall, but not by using violence. I'll leave you with that until the first installment comes up.
THIS IS A CALL: Get all your friends checking Idle Minds again, because after this, the archives might just mysteriously disappear...

Ohmygoodness, it's the second-to-last page.
So today I had my senior pictures done...the crazy man scared me, I don't like tube tops, I hate the whole idea of senior pictures, and most likely they'll look like crap anyway.
But he said I had "beautiful skin," so I guess I can't hold that against him. ^^;

That was cold of him. But I/she deserved it.Today sucked arse, so I drew stuff. It helped. I'm not interesting enough to do daily updates. I crave an ?berpretzel. The end. --Nicki | | Tuesday, August 21st, 2001 | | 7:20 am |
Deux.
I hate drawing couple-y pictures. I just had to say that. Ah, yes, this is where it starts getting interesting. I'm not planning on saying who the "you" in question was. No, not even if you guess it right. Maybe one day, though, depending on how things turn out.. Things are still too confusing for me to say anything right now. Tenshiko's dress is pretty, no? I love Tenshiko. Apparently I also love rambling, which I'm doing now, so I'm STOPPING. Bye. -- Nicki[note from Joel- due to some issues with the Keenspace FTP, the update will have to be put up later today =/STATUS:> Connect: Tuesday 07:17:28 08-21-2001 STATUS:> Connecting to idleminds.keenspace.com STATUS:> Connecting to idleminds.keenspace.com (ip = 64.71.165.130) STATUS:> Socket connected. AUGH!
So I've been told my chess pieces are kinda wrong... Maybe that's because I know less than nothing about chess. But you know what? It doesn't matter. They're not talking about chess anyway, I'm just clever like that. ...Or something. Fate, by the way, doesn't like me much. She's got nifty eyes, though, I think. It's been a week, I feel like crap, blah blah blah. I don't feel like ranting. Besides, it's the kind of thing best left to a more private forum. Obligatory Music Pimpage-- "All Things Ordinary" by The Anniversary. Good song. The end. -- Nicki Current Music: The Anniversary - All Things Ordinary | | Sunday, August 12th, 2001 | | 4:22 am |

Okay, Sam here. I'm going through a HUGE bout of artists block right now. I can't even pick up a freakin' pencil at this point. I swear, though, I'll get over this. At least I hope i will.. Anyway, in the meantime, enjoy this hastily put together image of artists block that i drew up a few weeks ago for when i felt like i was going through the same thing.
OH! Check back on Saturday for Disillusioned #5, then, starting Sunday is a Disillusioned EVENT! 7 days, 7 parts to a MINISERIES! (unrelated note: i will also be on vacation this week.)

ai-yai-yai-yai Haaaahahahahahaha! I met Joel! He is awesome beyond words!
...At least I think I met him. I'm terrified that it might be a dream.
But at least for now, I met Joel! And now I must go explode. Have a lovely day.
Obligatory Music Pimpage--the song I used in this d, "Hey Sandy" by Polaris. You should know it from The Adventures of Pete & Pete, which is the best show ever. And if you don't know it, shame on you! Go educate yourself.

Gwaaaaaaaah!
Meep! Sam here, sorry, but I think i'm getting a bit behind in comics. I went to a Dodger game on Saturday, then hung out at the Los Angeles ABC television station and crashed at a friend's place for the night, so that kept me from doing sunday's comic, which i present to you now. On wednesday. Eheh, yeah, i know it's late. But I'll get monday and wednesday's comics done soon. Things are starting to get busy with classes starting again, and I'm taking a vacatin out to Washington DC to go visit mer and have some relaxing fun out there in about a week and a half. I'll see if I can't write an update or two from her place. She was gracious enough to let me stay with her and is even getting a new couch for me to sleep on. Of course, if you ask her, the couch was going to be purchased reguardless if i were going out there or not, but i like to think i'm special. ^^; But yeah, i'll be out there from the 17th till the 21st of, well, yeah, this month. I'm excited about it. I've never been outside of California, except once to Vegas for COMDEX, so i've never been to DC before, and i hear it's a nice place.
On a side note, Joel re-did the links page to include comics that actually still exist, but somehow it got lost in the keenspace update. We'll get that back up for you soon.

King Dead
Okay, I had this whole big loverly update written and then the comp went into epileptic fits and I'm too lazy to try and remember what I said. So instead you get this. It's wonderful, I know. And yes, that's supposed to be me, and no, I'm not that cute (though some will argue with me on that). Whee for self-depreciation.
Wow, by the time the next d goes up, I'll have been to Otakon and met Joel and not died (I'll be the girl in the yellow SECURITY shirt and the dragon pants). Huh. That's crazy. Wish me luck.
Obligatory Music Pimpage--"Aside" by The Weakerthans. Or anything by The Weakerthans. Except when you're feeling crappy, 'cause then they'll just kill. Heed this warning.
I'd like to thank Sam and Andy for unknowingly introducing me to this fabulous band. So...thanks. Yep.

Pimptasticism
Sam here, sorry it took so long to get the comic up. I didn't have time to finish it last night, but, it's up now! And, like i wanted to say in the number gag, There's nothing like breaking the 4th wall to cleanse the pallette, ne? We've got some craaaaaaaazy stuff in line for this plotline, so stick around. And don't forget, September 4th is the 1-year anniversary of Idle Minds, and (hopefully, if i can time this out right..) the 200th Comic, too! And remember to check in every Saturday for Disillusioned, the cool new Anime/Manga styled comic that we're hosting here. So I hope you come back every day and check, because there's almost always something new every day at Idle Minds. Hey, a new comic every Monday, Wednesday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday, and a new update every update day as well. Hey, I might go daily for a week or two to get the comics i need in to get to 200, too, so check those days out, too.
In case you didn't notice, the Nightjive T-Shirts are no longer available. No new designs up as of yet, but there will be soon. Keep an eye out for that. The Mug and the Mousepad are still available, though, so feel free to purchase them. They're high-quality and they've got Idle Minds stuff on them.
Okay, I'm done pimping for now. Stick around tomorrow for d #3!

01-08-01
So I thought my old neighbor might be dead. I mean, she had mail under her door for three weeks. And suddenly I saw ants in my apartment. I've never once seen bugs in my apartment since I moved in. I live on the eighth floor for one thing. But regardless, the mail's gone now so either she came home from a very long vacation or they finally came and took her body away. Oh, and the exterminators are coming tomorrow. I'm missing the O and P keys on my keyboard here, using the bracket keys by proxy. Only now it's completely screwed up my typing skills. I sit down at my computer at work and suddenly I'm writing anagrams. Which reminds me, tomorrow is "International Day" and I'm supposed to bring an "ethnic" food from my place of origin. Less than half of the people in my department are actually American, so I guess they figured this would be easy. I, on the other hand, was born in south Texas so all I know to bring are tacos. And my co-workers don't eat meat. So I'm thinking I'll go to the market at lunch, buy some chips with queso and call it a day. I can't cook anyway, even if I cared enough to bother. I've long grown accustomed to being the typical monolingual American, but being the sole person in the office fluent in only one language can be rather embarrassing. Don't get me wrong, I was able to get around Paris okay, and I can muddle through most any doujinshi but I couldn't have a serious conversation in French or Japanese to save my life. I've been considering spending some time in Tokyo, but if going abroad does one thing it's in making you appreciate the amenties you take for granted in America. (Trust me when I say that what the Italians call air conditioning is nowhere near real air conditioning.) You start to miss strange things like drive-thrus and commercials that make some semblance of sense. But then it also makes you think about what's really worth missing. Distance allows you to better view the things -- and the people -- that may in reality be much more superfluous than they first appear. Things like the internet and digital cable. People that we talk to every day only to realize that we no longer find them very interesting. Vacations are good for that. Breaths of fresh air. A step back to re-evaluate, reconsider, and all those other redo verbs. Perspective is a valuable commodity, right up there with adaptibility for the change it inevitably brings. I guess what I'm trying to say is that if the ants in my apartment are really the result of my neighbor's rotting corpse, I'll try really hard not to poke it with a stick when I finally break in to look for loose change. Hey, I said I'd at least try. Meredith | | Monday, July 30th, 2001 | | 5:48 am |

Yep. We're back.
Sam here, back again back again, whoopity doo. Plotline SHOULD (for all intents and purposes) start tomorrow, this one's just to get us back in the swing of things. And by "us" I mean "me" and by "back in the swing of things" I mean "off of the booze." So, yeah, this one's just to get me off of the booze.
...what?
DON'T FORGET! August 1st is the LAST day to buy any of the Idle Minds Nightjive merchandise! If you wanted to own any of it, you have to buy it by August 1st! That's WEDNESDAY, for those playing the home game.

Update by Mirai Matt! Fanart day!
Wow. I'm doing an Idle Minds update...this is nuts...
This is sort of a comic/fanart thing. It's not really that funny, so I don't know if I can call it a comic. It's more a piece of fanart with a comical twist, I'd say. You know, it's Sam posing for a picture, with Joel giving Sam the ever-present-among-third-graders bunny ears thing. (calling Joel a third grader was not the intent here...) And I'm sorry that the art sucks compared to Sam's normal stuff. I can think of ideas much better than I can actually produce them...I can look at something that's already drawn and draw something like that pretty well, but when I start to do stuff on my own it starts to fall apart a bit. ^^;;
Yeah, this is Mirai Matt updating here. I'm an online friend (or acquantance, depending on the person...former enemy of one of them...but that's a long story that doesn't need to be told here...) of everyone who is and has ever been in Idle Minds. We all met in the newsgroup alt.fan.dragonball, if I'm not mistaken. (Now I'm the only one still there, everyone else left...well, Joel pops in once every other month, but...) So when Idle Minds first started, I was somewhat mad and somewhat jealous...I mean, here was this online comic with five of these people who I sorta knew, and they made a comic, and none of them had told me at all!
And then I started to read the comic. At first it was freaky, seeing all of them in it. But after a while, I started to realize that it was a good comic. So I read it more often. I still wished I was part of it, still wished I was part of the group. And that's how it went for a long time, up until now.
In a way, it's sort of ironic, as I went completely full-circle. At first I hated Idle Minds and its existence, and now I think it's great, and I'm contributing to it. It just goes to show you that you shouldn't give up on something too early; you shouldn't write something off before you really understand. If I had, who knows what I would've been doing now? Who knows what friends I wouldn't have today?
Bet you thought the guest guy would forget the Obligatory Music Pimpage, didn't you? :
Well, as you can guess, I didn't! Currently, I'm listening to "It Doesn't Matter" from Sonic Adventure. I think it's a great song, but that may be just because I've played the game. So in (what I think is) an Idle Minds first, we have dual Pimpage! First, play Sonic Adventure, then get some of the music from it. That game alone justified my purchase of a Dreamcast, it was pure fun. And the music from it is excellent. It helps the mood in a way that is executed so perfectly only in the great games of Nintendo and Capcom. (please, nobody flame me for my videogame preferences...)
Well, I figure it's about time to wrap this up now...I've rambled on long enough, heh. I hope nobody minds that this is sorta long...^^;;

WHEEFUN!
Readers? Sam. Welcome to the first of two days of FANSERVICE! WOO! Today, you get violence. Sam's on fire and Joel's got acid in his face. Tomorrow? Corey and Mer in (separate) sexy poses!
Okay, I admit it, it's just a cop-out of scripting actual comics while Joel's gone. But, hey, you get fun out of it!
Oh, keep voting. You people all rock.
